Kathmandu, April 3: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said there would be no agreement against national interests during his near-coming visit to India.
Prime Minister Oli said this today while informing the National Assembly meeting about his April 6-8 visit to India at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He expressed his confidence that the visit would further strengthen the age-old relations between the two countries and make it more result-oriented. “I am going there as a representative of the country. Never be scared that the relations will go sour and our national integrity will go down. I am going to show our friendly gesture and will return with India’s friendliness”, PM noted.
Nepal has intended to establish cordial relations with both the neighbouring countries, he said, adding that friendly relation is the main basis of our foreign policy.
The PM apprised NA meeting that he is ready to address genuine interests of neighbours saying in-depth discussion would be held on the expansion of relations being based on mutual benefits and interests. “I have no hobby to pile up new agreements. Emphasis would be laid on implementation of previous agreements. Intensive discussion would be held on the development and expansion of agriculture, energy, rail and water ways”.
He also said that the meetings would be focused on ending growing trade deficit and expanding bilateral linkage and network between the two countries. Discussion would be held towards fulfilling the commitments India made in the aftermath of the earthquake within a certain timeframe, PM Oli added.
He went on saying that matters concerning Indian interests ranging from the prevention of cross-border terrorism, human trafficking, drug smuggling and illegal activities would be discussed during the visit. The agendas of making SAARC and BIMSTEC effective will also feature during the discussion, he shared.
The government is ready to address the problem of citizenship that has been raised in Terai-Madhes, he said, adding that, “The offspring of descent and naturalized parents would obtain citizenship certificates by descent and the particular chapter would close for ever. But not a single foreigner would be granted Nepali citizenship certificate”.
