Nepal Government Aims to Boost Cooking Gas Imports Amid Shortage Rumors

Kathmandu— In response to recent shortages of cooking gas in Nepal's market, a comprehensive discussion was held at the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Govind Bahadur Karki, aimed to address the issue and enhance coordination among relevant authorities to ensure effective distribution.

Meeting Addresses Shortage Concerns

The discussion focused on identifying the root causes of the gas shortage. Gas entrepreneurs present at the meeting claimed that there was no actual shortage, attributing rumors and perceived shortages to consumers' tendency to stockpile cylinders out of fear of future scarcity.

Despite these claims, the government decided to take proactive measures by increasing cooking gas imports to more than 50,000 metric tons per month for the next three months in anticipation of upcoming festival seasons.
