NCPI MPs Appeal to Home Minister on Mosque Loudspeakers and Tribunal Cases

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— Three Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) members, Yusuf Pathan, Khalilur Rahaman, and Abu Taher Khan, have penned a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding police actions concerning mosque loudspeakers and the backlog in Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) tribunal cases. The MPs from Murshidabad district are urging for fair implementation of noise regulations without hurting religious sentiments and faster resolution of pending EPIC cases.

Mosque Loudspeaker Regulations

The letter highlights that police authorities have been directing mosques to remove microphones or loudspeakers. The MPs emphasize the need for respecting Supreme Court directives on noise regulations while ensuring a sensitive and uniform implementation process. They stress the importance of not hurting religious sentiments in this context.

EPIC Tribunal Delays

The MPs also address delays in EPIC tribunal cases, noting that many genuine voters have had their names deleted from electoral rolls and are awaiting tribunal decisions. These delays affect passport verification, land registration, and access to government welfare schemes. They call for expediting all pending genuine cases by the end of this year and establishing additional tribunal benches.

The letter also calls for creating a grievance monitoring mechanism to address these issues effectively.
