Kathmandu— Chinese President Xi Jinping called on members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to strive for higher quality development and promote a more just and equitable global governance system at the organization's 26th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Xi emphasized that the SCO should shoulder its historic responsibility and take proactive measures to steer the course of history.

Putting Development First

Xi highlighted the SCO's significant achievements over the past 25 years, noting its transformation into a new type of regional cooperation organization that spans the largest geographical area and represents the largest population. He proposed four key points for the SCO: prioritizing development and people-first policies, focusing on security as a primary goal, promoting dialogue and consultation, and championing universally beneficial economic globalization. Xi also announced China's plans to develop an international AI application cooperation center with fellow SCO countries, establish a port economic cooperation center in Tianjin, and implement 100 technological cooperation projects over the next three years.

Advancing Global Governance

At the 'SCO Plus' meeting, Xi called for the organization to advance a more just and equitable global governance system and an equal and orderly multipolar world. He emphasized that major countries should lead by example in observing international norms and honoring the rule of law. Xi also proposed three key areas for advancing common prosperity: promoting the development and rise of the Global South, guiding reforms in global governance, and fostering a community with a shared future for humanity.
