Kathmandu— Members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) staged a protest march towards Parliament on Tuesday, accusing opposition leaders of obstructing proceedings and demanding answers regarding recent police action against student protestors in Jharkhand. Simultaneously, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated that her brother, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, had already met with students from Jharkhand who were protesting alleged irregularities in state-level examinations.

Parliamentary Disruption and Protests

The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 2 pm following continued disruptions caused by the ongoing confrontation between the government and opposition parties. NDA MPs carried placards targeting Rahul Gandhi, alleging he was avoiding a debate on the student protests. The protest stemmed from recent incidents where Jharkhand Police used lathis and water cannons to disperse demonstrators in Ranchi.

Student Demands in Jharkhand

Protesting aspirants from the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) have been demanding the cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination, a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities, and broader reforms to the state’s recruitment process. They claim their demands haven't been adequately addressed by the state government. The demonstrations centered around concerns regarding alleged discrepancies in the JPSC and JSSC-Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examinations.

Opposition Seeks Accountability

Rahul Gandhi previously stated that the opposition wasn’t interested in hearing from Home Minister Amit Shah, but rather wanted to know who authorized the police crackdown on protestors. He questioned whether the responsibility lay with Shah himself or another official within the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), suggesting either culpability or incompetence. Gandhi also accused both Narendra Modi and Amit Shah of lacking the courage to address Parliament directly.

The government has offered a debate on the issue, with the Home Minister scheduled to respond, potentially paving the way for a resolution to the parliamentary deadlock.
