Kathmandu— Chinese President Xi Jinping urged closer ties between China and Egypt on Wednesday, calling for the two nations to deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership amid a turbulent international landscape. During his state visit to Cairo, Xi emphasized the importance of mutual support and cooperation across various fields including infrastructure development, green energy, and anti-terrorism efforts.
Historical Bond
Xi highlighted that Egypt was the first Arab and African nation to establish diplomatic ties with China in 1956. He noted that over the past seven decades, China-Egypt relations have developed distinctive features of equality, mutual trust, friendship, solidarity, and win-win cooperation. The older-generation leaders of both countries fought side by side for national independence and against imperialism and colonialism, forging an unbreakable bond of friendship.
Mutually Beneficial Cooperation
Xi emphasized the need to promote mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Egypt in traditional fields such as infrastructure development, power, agriculture, and communications technology. He also called for fostering new highlights of cooperation in green energy, electric vehicles, aerospace, the digital economy, and modern agricultural technology.
People-to-People Exchanges
Xi stressed the importance of promoting people-to-people exchanges between China and Egypt. He proposed comprehensively expanding exchanges and cooperation in culture, education, science and technology, health, sports, and other fields to facilitate personnel exchanges and enhance bonds between the two peoples.
Security Cooperation
Xi called for strengthening security cooperation between China and Egypt, including joint efforts against transnational crime, anti-corruption, and anti-terrorism. He emphasized the need to safeguard their common security through these collaborative efforts.
Multilateral Collaboration
The Chinese president also urged both countries to strengthen multilateral collaboration on platforms such as the United Nations and BRICS. Xi proposed jointly promoting the development of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, opposing unilateralism and acts of bullying, and promoting a more just and equitable global governance system.
