Kathmandu— The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has reported that international rescue efforts continue in the aftermath of the Bhotekoshi flash flood in Nepal. Teams from India, China, and South Korea are collaborating with local authorities to clear tunnels obstructed by mud and large stones. The disaster has resulted in 1,114 confirmed deaths and approximately 3,900 people still missing.

International Collaboration

A tunnel rescue team from India is currently working in Langtang and Chilime alongside the Nepali rescue team. The Chinese team has been mobilized at Upper Trishuli-III ‘A’ where they have already opened some parts of the tunnel. A Korean team, collaborating with local forces, is involved in opening tunnels at Upper Trishuli-I.

Forensic and Identification Efforts

The Nepal Police has forwarded DNA samples for analysis, supported by a 19-member Indian forensic team and a special 5-member Chinese forensic team. A Singaporean disaster victim identification team with additional members arriving today is also aiding in the processing of DNA samples.

Humanitarian Response

The security agencies, government bodies, medical teams, and emergency response squads are working together to provide search, rescue, rehabilitation, and relief operations. Nearly 2,500 pilgrims have returned home safely via various border points.
