Kathmandu— Nine bodies of people who were swept away by the Bhotekoshi River flood and ended up in India have been returned to Nepal. The bodies, including four women and five men, were discovered along the riverbanks near Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh, India, and handed over at the Sunauli border crossing on Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon.

Discovery of Bodies

The bodies were found in areas under the jurisdiction of Khadda and Padrauna police stations in Kushinagar district. Sub-Inspector Sanjiv Kumar Maurya at the Khadda Police Station stated that the bodies were located along the riverbank near Madanpur Sukrauli, about 35 kilometers from the Gandak dam area on the Nepal-India border.

Identification and Preservation of Evidence

Among the four bodies brought to Nepal on Wednesday, there was a girl aged between 9 and 12 years old, a woman around 35-40 years old, a man approximately 40-45 years old, and a young man aged about 23-28 with 'Dasharath Jangge' written on his right hand. Magistrate Devendra Kumar Yadav at the Padrauna Police Station informed that post-mortem examinations were conducted at AIIMS hospital in Gorakhpur, India, and evidence including DNA was preserved from the bodies.
