Kathmandu— According to a report by Save the Children, Israel has been killing or injuring an average of seven children each day in Lebanon since March. Despite agreements between the Lebanese government and Israel aimed at ending hostilities, civilian infrastructure continues to be targeted, resulting in significant casualties among children. Over six months, at least 4,300 people have been killed, over 12,000 wounded, and between 60 to 70 villages destroyed.

Impact on Children

The report highlights that the ongoing conflict has resulted in at least 257 children being killed and 1,039 injured. Nora Ingdal, Save the Children's Lebanon country director, emphasized the need for international action to prevent continued attacks and displacement of civilians. Despite a ceasefire signed in June, over 348,800 people remain unable to return home due to ongoing Israeli aggression.

Ceasefire Violations

The two sides reached a tentative ceasefire agreement in November 2024 after Israel seized territory in southern Lebanon. However, Hezbollah rejected the framework unless Israel fully withdraws from Lebanese territory. The deal largely collapsed following a rocket and drone attack on an Israeli military base by Hezbollah in March.

Education Disruption

A nationwide assessment by Lebanon’s Ministry of Education found that 340 schools have been damaged or destroyed, putting at least 100,000 children at risk of missing the next school year. Save the Children warns that urgent action is needed to restore essential services and ensure children can return to education.
