Israeli Attacks on Lebanon Since 2023 Result in Over 8,900 Deaths

Kathmandu— Since 2023, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have claimed the lives of over 8,900 people and injured nearly 30,600, according to Lebanese health authorities. The conflict has also seen 179 attacks on ambulance crews, killing 135 healthcare workers. Despite two US-brokered peace agreements, Israel has maintained its military presence in southern Lebanon, leading to continued violence and displacement.

Casualties and Attacks

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health reported that from October 2023 to September 2026, 8,920 people were killed and 30,595 injured in Israeli attacks. Since March 2, 2023, 4,358 deaths and 12,359 injuries were recorded. Additionally, 179 attacks on ambulance crews were documented, resulting in 135 healthcare worker fatalities. These figures highlight the severity of the conflict and its impact on the local population and medical services.

Displacement and Occupation

The United Nations refugee agency, UNHCR, reported that 360,000 people remained displaced by Israeli aggression in August, with at least 22,000 living in collective shelters. Israel has maintained its military occupation of southern Lebanon since March 2023, when it announced the installation of a 'buffer' zone. The June 26 framework agreement, which was contingent on Hezbollah’s disarmament, was rejected by the group, who demanded that Israel first end its occupation. This ongoing conflict has led to continued violence and displacement in the region.

Recent Incidents

On Friday, an Israeli air strike on Kfar Reman, a town in southern Lebanon, killed three people and injured 23 others. The Israeli military claimed it cleared Hezbollah fighters in tunnels under the strategic Ali al-Taher bridge. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported on Friday that Israeli raids and artillery shelling targeted seven towns in the Tyre and Nabatieh districts. Early on Sunday, Israeli warplanes bombed Zawtar al-Sharqiyah in southern Lebanon, continuing the pattern of violence.
