Kathmandu January 12.Twenty-eight schools in Tatopani rural municipality of Jumla have begun teaching and learning activities in Jumli Khas language. The rural municipality developed text books in order to save the Khas language from extinction. Of the 28 schools in the rural municipality, 25 schools began providing learning activities in Khas language from Grade 1 to 3 from the academic year 2075-76. The Khas language classes will be upgraded up to Grade 4-5 from the current academic year 2076-77, according to head of the education department of the rural municipality Chanyan Dutta Chaulagain. This initiative to continue education in local Khas language is also expected to protect and preserve the ancient culture and traditions of the region, said chairperson of the rural municipality Nawa Raj Neupane. The text books include information related to various natural and historical sites and well as local herbs like Yarsagumba.
