Kathmandu— On Saturday, India's performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 was marked by dominance across various disciplines, securing an impressive tally of 39 medals. The country’s boxers shone particularly bright with seven gold and three silver medals, while athletes in para athletics, judo, and track events also contributed significantly to the medal count.
Boxing Triumphs
Indian women's boxing team led the charge, with Sakshi Chaudhary, Preeti Pawar, Jaismine Lamboria, Priya Ghanghas, and Arundhati Choudhary securing gold medals in their respective weight categories. The men’s contingent also performed well, with Sachin Siwach winning gold in the 60kg category and Ankush Panghal clinching the title in the 80kg division. However, Lovlina Borgohain, Jadumani Singh, and Narender Berwal had to settle for silver medals after losing their finals.
Para Athletics Success
In para athletics, Soman Rana won gold in the men's F57 shot put event, while Shubham Juyal claimed a silver medal. The performance of Indian athletes in this category highlighted the country’s growing strength in adaptive sports.
Mixed Results in Other Disciplines
Athletics saw Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran winning silver and bronze medals respectively, while Gulveer Singh added another bronze medal in the men's 5000m final. In judo, Unnati Sharma won a bronze medal after defeating South Africa’s Skye Knoester. However, other athletes faced mixed results with some failing to progress further in their events.
India will enter the final day of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on Sunday with an impressive haul of 39 medals, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze.
