Kathmandu— Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin has faced criticism over a remark he allegedly made at a public meeting in Thanjavur regarding the Cauvery water issue. The comment drew sharp reactions from political leaders and media figures, who accused him of lowering the standards of political discourse.

Alleged Indirect Reference to Trisha

During a rally in Thanjavur addressing the Cauvery water issue, Udhayanidhi Stalin was interrupted by sections of the crowd chanting 'Trisha, Trisha.' Pausing briefly, he allegedly remarked, 'Whether the water reaches anywhere else or not, it should reach there,' before clarifying that his comment referred to the river's flow. However, critics argue this statement was an indirect reference to actress Trisha.

Political Reactions

TVK MLA Rhevanth Charan termed Stalin’s alleged remark 'disgusting' and accused the DMK leadership of lowering political standards. He criticized the party for resorting to cheap provocation rather than addressing the concerns of Tamil Nadu's farmers.

MDMK Principal Secretary Durai Vaiko also condemned the comment, stating that it was inappropriate to settle personal scores at a rally focused on the Cauvery issue and the welfare of farmers.

DMK Denies Allegations

In response to the criticism, DMK MP TR Baalu denied any indirect reference to Trisha. He told reporters, 'He has not mentioned any word about the particular woman. It is all false.' The party maintains that Stalin’s comments were unrelated to the actress and focused solely on the Cauvery water issue.
