Kathmandu— On Tuesday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal rebuked Pakistan for criticizing India’s ties with Afghanistan. Speaking during a bi-weekly press briefing in New Delhi, Jaiswal said that such remarks reflect Islamabad's insecurity and frustration over the growing relationship between India and Afghanistan.

Pakistan Criticizes Religious Ties

The Pakistani Army spokesperson, General Ahmed Chaudhary, recently criticized India-Afghanistan relations by invoking religious verses and advising Kabul to stay away from 'non-believers.' Jaiswal dismissed these comments as a reflection of Pakistan's insecurity over the positive trajectory of India-Afghanistan ties. This came after Afghanistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Mawlawi Attaullah Omari, visited India in July and emphasized the strength of bilateral relations.

Indus Water Treaty Abeyance

Jaiswal also addressed an article by Indian Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, on the Indus Water Treaty's abeyance. The ambassador stated that India’s decision to hold the 1960 treaty in abeyance was a direct response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam and is merely acknowledging Pakistan's conduct over half a century. Jaiswal reiterated that the treaty will remain in abeyance until Pakistan irrevocably and credibly abjures its support for cross-border terrorism.
