Kathmandu— Bangladesh has expressed outrage over the deposed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's live interaction with the media in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused her of launching 'venomous vitriol' against Bangladesh and its people, denouncing the event as an affront to the country’s sovereignty.

Bangladesh's Strong Rejection

In a press statement released on Wednesday, Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that despite prior concerns conveyed to India about the potential ramifications of this event on bilateral relations, Sheikh Hasina was allowed to engage in live interaction with media. The ministry emphasized that such an occurrence is particularly offensive given the second anniversary of the July Revolution, which stands as a testament to the nation’s resolve against fascism.

The statement also highlighted that Bangladesh had repeatedly requested India to return convicted criminal Hasina under the Extradition Treaty signed between both countries in 2013. However, these requests have not been met with any response from India.

Hasina's Announcement

Addressing her first virtual press briefing since leaving Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina announced her intention to return home in December, stating that she is prepared to face any consequences. She emphasized her commitment to returning despite the risks and hardships faced by her supporters and countrymen.

Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Ministry reaffirmed its desire for a constructive relationship with India based on sovereign equality and mutual respect, while expressing deep regret over Sheikh Hasina’s media interaction in New Delhi.
