Three Roads Remain Blocked Amid Flooding and Landslides in Nepal

ABC NEWS
२१ श्रावण २०८३, बिहिबार   ९ : ३२   बजे

Kathmandu— As heavy rains continue to batter Nepal, the Department of Roads has reported that three road sections are still completely blocked by landslides and flooding. Six additional sections have experienced partial disruptions, but repairs have allowed 24 previously disrupted sections to reopen. The Nepal Police warns of ongoing risks on highways like BP Highway and Kanti Highway due to mudslides and erosion.

Ongoing Road Disruptions

The Department of Roads has identified three road sections that remain completely blocked by landslides and flooding. These include the Araniko highway, which is obstructed at Jeerokilo, Kodari, and Liping due to mudslides and sinking roads. Additionally, the Lamo Sanghu-Ramechhpa road in Temakoshi Rural Municipality-5 has been closed off by river erosion from the Tamakoshi River.

The Nepal Police advises drivers to avoid these areas during peak rainfall hours and to seek alternative routes when necessary.

Safety Precautions

To mitigate risks, vehicular movement on the Dhulekhel-Sindhuli road section along BP Highway is restricted from 6 pm to 4 am due to flood risk. Similarly, vehicles are prohibited from driving along Kanti highway between 5 pm and 5 am because of potential hazards caused by heavy rainfall.

The Nepal Police has also arranged for alternative routes in areas like Raj Duwali in Ilam Municipality-9 where the Mechi highway is entirely muddy.

Drivers are urged to stay informed about road conditions as they continue to change rapidly due to ongoing weather events.
