How to Maintain Fitness Routines During the Rainy Season

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— The onset of the rainy season provides relief from heat but introduces challenges to regular fitness routines through slippery roads, increased humidity, and a higher risk of seasonal infections. To combat these disruptions, individuals can maintain their health by shifting to indoor activities, adjusting nutritional intake, and prioritizing hygiene and proper gear.

Adapting Workouts for Indoor Environments

Frequent showers and inclement weather often make outdoor activities like jogging or cycling impractical. To maintain fitness levels without the risk of slipping or getting drenched, individuals can opt for indoor exercises such as yoga, strength training, Pilates, or skipping.

When exercising outdoors, it is essential to avoid waterlogged areas, slippery surfaces, and thunderstorms to ensure safety.

Nutrition and Immunity Support

A balanced diet is critical for supporting overall health during the monsoon. Incorporating seasonal fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can help bolster immunity.

It is specifically recommended to consume foods rich in vitamins C and D and to remain hydrated, even if thirst sensations decrease during the season. Additionally, limiting the intake of fried or street foods can help maintain health.

Gear and Hygiene Management

High humidity and damp conditions can lead to discomfort and skin infections. To mitigate these risks, it is advisable to wear lightweight, moisture-wicking workout clothes and well-cushioned, non-slip footwear to provide better grip.

Maintaining hygiene is also vital to prevent fungal growth and infection. This includes drying shoes and clothing thoroughly after use, showering promptly after exercise, keeping workout gear clean, and washing hands regularly.

Prioritizing consistency over intensity and ensuring adequate sleep and stretching can help maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout the season.
