Lok Sabha to Consider Bills Altering Kerala’s Name and Amending Co-operative Development Act

Kathmandu— India’s Lok Sabha is scheduled to consider and potentially pass two bills moved by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday: the Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026, and the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026. These bills were introduced Monday amidst disruption in the House and are part of a larger legislative agenda that also includes reforms to tribunals and mining regulations. The session will begin with Question Hour followed by the laying of papers by various Union Ministers and reports from Parliamentary Standing Committees.

Legislative Agenda for Tuesday

In addition to the Kerala name change bill and the NCDC amendment, lawmakers are also expected to consider the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026, and the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026. The National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill seeks to amend the existing National Co-operative Development Corporation Act of 1962. Any amendments will be considered alongside the bill’s passage.

Committee Reports and Ministerial Statements

Several Parliamentary Standing Committees are set to present their reports during Tuesday's proceedings, including those on Housing and Urban Affairs, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, and Industry. Ministers will also deliver statements regarding the implementation of recommendations from these committees, covering areas such as rural skilling programs, land records modernization, and industrial development. Specifically, ministers Baghel, Paswan, and Varma are scheduled to address their respective ministries’ progress on committee recommendations.

Other Parliamentary Business

Before addressing the legislative agenda, the Lok Sabha will begin with Question Hour at 11 am and allow for the laying of papers by multiple Union Ministers. The Secretary General of Lok Sabha will also report messages received from the Rajya Sabha concerning the Bankers' Books Evidence Bill, 2026, and the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026. Matters under Rule 377 will be taken up before proceeding with the bills.

The Lok Sabha is expected to continue debate and potential passage of these bills throughout Tuesday's session, alongside other scheduled parliamentary business.
