Russian Attacks Leave Six Dead in Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv Hospital Struck

Kathmandu— Six people were killed and at least 20 others wounded in Russian attacks across Ukraine overnight, with particularly heavy shelling reported in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region and Kyiv, where a children's hospital was struck. The attacks, which utilized long-range missiles and drones, come as Ukrainian officials warn of a critical shortage of Patriot interceptors needed to defend against Russia’s escalating aerial bombardment. Russia claims its strikes targeted defense industry facilities and logistical hubs.

Zaporizhzhia Region Under ‘Massive’ Attack

Ivan Fedorov, head of the military administration in Zaporizhzhia, described the attacks as “massive,” utilizing both missiles and aerial bombs. He reported that six people were killed and 19 wounded across the region. Images posted to social media showed buildings and vehicles engulfed in flames, along with widespread power outages.

Kyiv Hit by Ballistic Missile

A ballistic missile strike on Kyiv caused damage and injured one person, according to Ukraine’s state emergency service. The attack impacted a children’s hospital in the Shevchenkivskyi district, triggering a fire at a nearby warehouse and causing one injury.

Cross-Border Drone Attack Reported in Russia

In Russia's Voronezh region, an overnight Ukrainian drone attack killed one person and injured two others. Regional governor Alexandr Gusev reported that falling debris sparked fires at warehouse facilities, including a logistics center belonging to online retailer Wildberries, which had been evacuated prior to the strike. Russian air defenses reportedly destroyed 15 drones over Voronezh city and five districts of the region.

The escalation in attacks on both sides comes as Ukraine continues to plead for increased military aid from its allies to bolster its air defense systems and counter Russia’s offensive capabilities.
