Cloudy Skies and Rainfall Forecast Across Nepal

ABC NEWS
२८ श्रावण २०८३, बिहिबार   ७ : ५५   बजे

Kathmandu— Nepal is expected to experience generally cloudy weather conditions across most of the country today, with forecasts indicating light to moderate rainfall in hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, as well as Karnali and Sudurpaschim. The Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology issued the bulletin citing the ongoing influence of monsoon winds and a normally positioned monsoon trough. Authorities have cautioned residents about potential risks associated with heavy rainfall, including floods, landslides, and erosion.

Monsoon Activity and Rainfall Patterns

The current weather patterns are attributed to the nationwide impact of monsoon winds currently affecting Nepal. The monsoon trough is reportedly located in its normal seasonal position, contributing to the anticipated precipitation. Specifically, light to moderate rainfall is expected in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, with one or two locations in Karnali and Sudurpaschim also likely to experience showers.

Potential Hazards and Warnings

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a warning regarding the potential for heavy rainfall to trigger floods, landslides, and soil erosion. Residents in affected areas are urged to take necessary precautions to mitigate these risks. The bulletin highlights that the anticipated weather conditions could significantly impact daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, and transportation infrastructure.

The Weather Forecasting Division continues to monitor the situation and will provide updated forecasts as needed.
