Landslide in Nepal’s Jajarkot District Claims Three Lives, Two Remain Missing

Kathmandu— A landslide struck Risang village in Bheri Municipality-2 of Jajarkot district, Nepal on Wednesday, killing three people and leaving two others missing. The disaster was caused by continuous rainfall that began Tuesday afternoon, impacting eight homes and prompting a search and rescue operation led by the Armed Police Force (APF).

Casualties and Rescue Efforts

The bodies of Uma Singh Khatri, 54, and Rati Khatri, 83, both residents of Risang, were recovered from the landslide debris. Kedar Karki, 52, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at a medical college in Kohalpur. Bhami Bahadur Karki and Harish BK remain missing as of Wednesday evening. A joint security team, including APF personnel trained in disaster management, has been deployed to continue search operations.

Injured Receiving Medical Care

In addition to the fatalities, seven individuals sustained injuries in the landslide: Ram Bahadur Shahi, 62; Siddhi Bahadur Kami, 45; Kamala Karki, 58; Anita Karki, 23; Unish Shahi, 10; Suntali Chadara, 45; and Bhadrakala Karki, 61. Ram Bahadur Shahi and Bhadrakala Karki are in serious condition and have been transferred to hospitals in Nepalgunj and Surkhet for advanced medical attention.

Search efforts continue for the two missing individuals as authorities assess the full extent of the damage caused by the landslide.
