Kathmandu— Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for increased collaboration between China and Indonesia, urging both countries to leverage their combined strength to advance cooperation among nations of the Global South. The remarks were made Friday during the Second Ministerial Meeting of the China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue held in Jakarta, with Wang emphasizing the importance of upholding the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit.

Dialogue Focuses on Shared Principles

During the meeting, Wang Yi highlighted the need for continued adherence to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence – mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence. He also stressed the significance of carrying forward the Bandung Spirit, referencing the historical 1955 Asia-Africa Conference held in Bandung, Indonesia, which promoted South-South cooperation.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and fostering collaboration within the Global South.
