Kathmandu— Abdulla Saeed Mubarak Jarwan Al Shamsi, the United Arab Emirates' ambassador to Nepal, met with Ramji Yadav, Nepal’s Minister for Youth, Labour and Employment, at the Ministry in Singha Durbar on Thursday to discuss strengthening bilateral labor relations. The two officials reached an understanding to organize a meeting of the Joint Operations Group, aiming for more effective implementation of existing memorandums of understanding and agreements concerning Nepali workers in the UAE. Discussions focused on streamlining processes and ensuring worker welfare.

Labor Agreement Implementation

The primary focus of the meeting was to enhance the practical application of current labor-related agreements between Nepal and the United Arab Emirates. Both Ambassador Al Shamsi and Minister Yadav agreed on the importance of convening a Joint Operations Group to facilitate this process, signaling a commitment to collaborative problem-solving in the realm of migrant worker employment.

The Ministry indicated that both sides expressed a desire for improved coordination and implementation of existing agreements designed to protect Nepali workers abroad.

Streamlining Police Clearance Certificates

Minister Yadav emphasized the need to simplify the process surrounding police clearance certificates required by Nepali citizens seeking employment in the UAE. He specifically highlighted the dual nature of the current requirements as a point of concern, suggesting that reducing bureaucratic hurdles would benefit prospective laborers.

Ambassador Samshi reportedly shared that the UAE government has been actively engaged in discussions and coordination efforts related to the welfare and rights of Nepali workers, according to Minister Yadav’s Secretariat.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from both parties to continue dialogue and work towards mutually beneficial solutions for labor-related issues between Nepal and the United Arab Emirates.
