Kathmandu— Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Beijing on Monday, agreeing to strengthen their strategic partnership and deepen collaboration in areas ranging from traditional trade to emerging technologies. The meeting focused on expanding economic ties, infrastructure development, and cultural exchange between the two nations, as well as coordinating positions on global issues within multilateral institutions like the United Nations. This commitment follows a 2015 agreement establishing a strategic partnership aimed at fostering closer bilateral relations.

Expanding Bilateral Cooperation

Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in established fields such as economy, trade, infrastructure, transportation, and mining. Both leaders also expressed interest in exploring new avenues for collaboration in areas like digital economies, artificial intelligence, and green energy technologies. A comprehensive deepening of exchanges was proposed across education, culture, science, technology, tourism, and other sectors to further strengthen ties.

Regional Stability and Global Alignment

Xi Jinping affirmed China’s support for Jordan's sovereignty, security, and development interests, highlighting the country’s significant regional role. He also expressed a willingness to increase exchanges at all levels of government, political parties, legislative bodies, and local administrations to share governance experiences. The two nations agreed to jointly safeguard the international system centered around the United Nations and promote a shared future for humanity.

Jordanian Commitment to One-China Policy

King Abdullah II reaffirmed Jordan’s firm adherence to the one-China policy, recognizing Taiwan as an integral part of China. He stated that Jordan prioritizes its relationship with China and is committed to expanding cooperation in various fields including economy, trade, manufacturing, agriculture, science, technology, pharmaceuticals, culture, and education. King Abdullah also welcomed increased Chinese investment in Jordan.

Formalizing the Partnership

Following their discussions, Xi Jinping and King Abdullah II witnessed the signing of multiple cooperation documents covering diplomacy, economic and trade relations, industrial and supply chains, and judicial matters. The two sides also issued a joint statement outlining plans to deepen their strategic partnership further.

The meeting signals a continued strengthening of ties between China and Jordan, with both nations committed to expanding collaboration and addressing shared global challenges.
