Kathmandu— Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) established an Emergency Response Team (ERT) on Thursday to coordinate search, rescue, information verification, and consular assistance for foreign nationals affected by devastating flash floods that struck the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts on Wednesday. The ERT will act as a central coordinating body within MoFA, responding to reports of missing persons and providing support to those impacted by the disaster, which has resulted in significant loss of life and infrastructure damage.

ERT Formation And Purpose

The Ministry announced the formation of the ERT with immediate effect, citing the scale of the recent flash floods in Rasuwa district. The team’s primary function is to facilitate search and rescue operations, verify information about affected individuals, and provide necessary support to foreign nationals caught up in the disaster. This includes coordinating efforts within MoFA and liaising with relevant external stakeholders.

Contact Information For Assistance

Concerned individuals and relatives seeking information regarding foreign nationals impacted by the floods can contact the ERT through dedicated hotline/WhatsApp numbers (+977-9744441227 and +977-9744441228) between 7 am and 10 pm, or via email at [email protected]. The Ministry has specifically requested that diplomatic missions, international organizations, families of missing persons, and the public utilize these channels for information sharing.

Appeal For Verified Information

MoFA issued a statement urging all concerned parties to avoid circulating unverified information regarding the disaster and its impact on foreign nationals. The Ministry emphasized the importance of relying on official channels for accurate updates and coordinated assistance, aiming to prevent misinformation during this critical time.

The ERT is currently operational and actively coordinating efforts to locate and assist affected foreign nationals in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts.
