Kathmandu— Republican Mike Rogers, a candidate for the U.S. Senate from Michigan, has been advocating for a war against Iran for at least two decades. Since President Donald Trump launched military action against Iran six months ago, Rogers has consistently supported the conflict, calling it “absolutely right” and asserting that Iran is an imminent threat to the United States. His stance on the issue has contributed to economic turmoil in Michigan.
Rogers' Advocacy Timeline
Mike Rogers began pushing for war with Iran as early as when George W. Bush was considering military action against the country. Throughout his political career, including his time chairing the House Select Committee on Intelligence from 2011 to 2015, Rogers made numerous claims about Iran’s nuclear ambitions and capabilities, often exaggerating the threat posed by Iran to the United States.
Current Stance
Rogers has maintained his support for the ongoing conflict with Iran. He believes that the country is an imminent threat and must not possess a nuclear weapon. Rogers also supports giving President Trump congressional authorization to continue the war, stating he “doesn’t mind” this idea.
