Kathmandu— Police in Nepal's Rasuwa district have recovered the bodies of 66 individuals who died in the devastating Bhotekoshi flood that struck on August 26. The recovery efforts, which are ongoing, have found most of the victims in Betrawati and Timure, with some also located in Syafrubeshi.

Identification and Recovery Efforts

So far, six bodies have been identified. The authorities are continuing to collect dead bodies and preparing to transport them to Dhunche for identification and further arrangements. Search operations are still underway in the affected areas.

Displacement and Sheltering of Affected Families

Families displaced from Kaindaltar in Betrawati have been temporarily housed at various locations in Shanti Tole, Tarkeshwor Municipality, Kathmandu district. Displaced residents from Timure and Syafrubeshi are sheltered at Pahelo Gumba in Raniban. Some affected families have also been accommodated at Turkuchiling Gumba in Dhunche and Bhimsen and Shivalaya primary schools in Majhgaun of Rasuwa.

Relief Operations

More than 600 people affected by the flood have been rescued. Relief supplies are being airlifted to various areas including Thomang, Chilime, Goljung, Haku, Dadagaun, and Thulogaun. Food supplies are also being transported by helicopter to other affected regions such as Laharepauwa, Betrawati, Pahirabesi, Ramche, Khaidi of Timure, Birding, Sherpa Gaun, Khamjing, and Syafrubeshi.

Infrastructure Damage and Restoration Efforts

The flood damaged roads and bridges, cutting off several settlements in the western part of Rasuwa. Communication services have resumed in most parts of the district. The Nepal Electricity Authority is working to restore power supply by extending a transmission line from Balaju through Shivapuri, Chaugada, Narja, Saramthali, Kalikaisthan to Dhunche.
