Nepal Flash Flood Death Toll Reaches 987; Over 11,000 Rescued

Kathmandu— The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported that the death toll from the flash flood in Rasuwa's Bhotekoshi River has reached 987 as of Tuesday morning. The highest number of bodies found was 321 in Chitwan, with significant numbers also recovered in Nawalparasi East and West, Nuwakot, Gorkha, Dhading, Tanahun, and Rasuwa. Among the 3,916 unaccounted for are security personnel from various agencies, including Nepal Police, Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, Customs Office, and Immigration Office.

Rescue Efforts Intensify

NDRRMA has deployed 21,011 security personnel for search and rescue operations. So far, 168 of the 279 injured have been discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment. The authority also reported that a total of 11,814 people have been rescued from affected areas.

Impact on Security Personnel

The disaster has severely impacted security personnel, with reports indicating that among the unaccounted for are 25 Nepal Police officers, 45 Nepali Army soldiers, 13 Armed Police Force members, 15 Customs Office staff, and three Immigration Office employees.
