Search and Rescue Intensified in Nepal’s Flood-Hit Rasuwa

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— A team from the Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal has intensified search and rescue operations in the flood-hit area of Timure, located within Gosaikund Rural Municipality-2. The flash flood on August 26 washed away the settlement, leaving over 2100 people unaccounted for. Despite challenging geographical conditions and limited resources, APF continues to recover bodies from the affected areas.

Search Operations Underway

The search and rescue efforts are being led by a 30-member team under the command of DSP Pradip Rai. The team includes medical professionals and technicians from APF hospitals to assist in the recovery process. So far, 104 bodies have been recovered from Timure alone, while additional bodies were found in Syabrubenshi (18) and Betrawati area (11).

Challenges Faced by Rescuers

Rescue teams are encountering significant difficulties due to the adverse geographical situation. Brigadier General Prajjwal Rana from Brigade-6 of the Nepali Army mentioned that rescuers have faced challenges in searching inside Rasuwagadhi Hydropower tunnel because debris and sludge have cemented within the tunnel. However, rescue operations continue at the Chilime Hydropower Project located in Syabrubenshi.

As efforts to manage the recovered bodies intensify due to the stench emanating from them, plans are underway to transport these remains to Bidur of Nuwakot for proper management.
