Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrives in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Sept 9 China’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi has arrived in Kathmandu today evening boarding a special aircraft. Wang, who is also the State Councilor, is on a three-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali. He was received by State-Minister for Health and Population, Dr Surendra Kumar Yadav, Nepal’s Ambassador to China, Leela Mani Paudyal, Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Shanker Das Bairagi and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi among others at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). This is Minister Wang’s second visit to Nepal after four years. During his stay in Nepal, he is scheduled to separately call on President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. On the occasion, a delegation-level meeting to be led by foreign ministers of Nepal and China will be held on September 9, which will be centered on augmenting economic and development partnership between the two countries. A welcome reception will be organised the same night in honour of the visiting Chinese Foreign Minister. According to a high-ranking official at the MoFA, during the delegation-level talks, treaties and agreements reached between the two countries in the past and China-supported projects in Nepal would be reviewed as well as their implementation emphasised. Furthermore, the talks would also focus on the understanding reached for forming the Trans-Himalayan Multi-dimensional Connectivity Network between China and Nepal, the construction of railway and mutual contacts we well as transport and transit agreements among other topics. Following the talks, both sides are scheduled to sign the “Letter of Exchange’ on cooperation in education and health sector between the two countries. —
