Trump Claims Mideast Allies Near Deal to End Iran Conflict

Kathmandu— President Donald Trump announced on Saturday evening via social media that Middle Eastern allies had reached the parameters of an agreement aimed at ending the ongoing conflict with Iran. The president stated he would hold off on ordering new military strikes in the five-month-old war for now, contingent upon rapid progress towards a comprehensive deal.

Deal Parameters and Conditions

Trump outlined that the emerging agreement would include the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat. He emphasized that based on this request, he had agreed to cancel any planned attacks for the future benefit of the world and the survival of a prosperous Iran, provided a deal can be swiftly concluded.

Regional Diplomatic Efforts

The announcement came after Trump’s call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The crown prince expressed concerns about potential U.S. escalation against Iran, which could lead to retaliatory attacks on Gulf countries’ energy infrastructure. He sought clarity from the president regarding any new actions being considered.

Saudi Arabia has joined the U.S. in striking Iranian-backed militias but is urging both sides to return to negotiations for a permanent resolution.

Domestic and International Implications

The conflict’s continuation poses significant challenges for Trump ahead of November midterms, as it remains unpopular among many Americans and has disrupted the global economy. The president had vowed retaliatory action after thwarting an attack on a U.S. base in Jordan earlier this week.

U.S. officials were cautious before Trump’s statement, with the State Department issuing security alerts for Americans in 10 countries due to escalating tensions.
