Kathmandu— Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala submitted a Suspension of Business notice under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, calling for an urgent discussion on alleged theft and financial irregularities related to donations collected for the Ram Mandir. The move comes amid growing public concern over transparency and accountability.

Rule 267 Notice Details

In his notice, Surjewala urged the Chair of the Rajya Sabha to suspend the scheduled business of the day to address what he termed a matter of urgent public importance. The Congress leader argued that the alleged misappropriation of donations and financial irregularities linked to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust require immediate attention and accountability.

Rule 267 allows members to seek suspension of listed business for matters deemed urgent, subject to approval by the Chair.

Previous Demands and Protests

Earlier this month, Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury had moved an Adjournment Motion Notice seeking a discussion on financial transparency and accountability related to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. She urged for an independent audit of the Trust's accounts and comprehensive statements from the government regarding legal oversight, financial reporting requirements, and public disclosure standards.

The Opposition plans to stage a protest at the Makar Dwar of Parliament on Monday, demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over police actions during protests in July. The protest will also highlight the alleged Ram Mandir donation theft.

Parliament is expected to witness further confrontations as the Opposition continues pressing for statements and discussions on these issues while the government seeks to advance its legislative agenda.
