The statement came in response to recent controversies surrounding Facebook's handling of content related to Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) and deepfake content.

Meta Faces Scrutiny Over Content Moderation

Following a media report alleging that Meta had promoted illegal advertisements related to Child Sexual Exploitative and Abuse Material (CSEAM), the company admitted to operational errors. Sources indicated that Meta would face further scrutiny over these issues, with officials stating that the company is not covered under intermediary definitions in India’s Information Technology Act.

High-Level Meeting Addresses Technical Error

A high-level delegation from Meta, led by Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan, met with Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology Secretary S. Krishnan to address the erroneous removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook video. The 45-minute meeting aimed to clarify the technical error that caused the video's temporary unavailability.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology had previously demanded an unqualified apology from Zuckerberg, warning that legal immunity under Section 79 of India’s Information Technology Act could be withdrawn if not met.
