Michigan Shootings Leave Six Dead, Including Suspect

Kathmandu— Six people, including a 16-year-old boy and the suspected gunman, died Friday following shootings at multiple locations in Missaukee County, Michigan, approximately 170 miles northwest of Detroit. Police responded to reports of gunfire at a home where they discovered three deceased adults and a critically injured teenage girl. The suspect, identified as Chad Hickman, fled the scene and was later found dead in a wooded area alongside another victim, bringing the total death toll to six.

Initial Discovery and Manhunt

Officers responding to a home Friday morning discovered the bodies of a 16-year-old boy, a 45-year-old man, and a 40-year-old woman. A 13-year-old girl was found at the same location in critical condition, police said. The discovery prompted a large-scale search for Chad Hickman, who authorities identified as the suspect. “This situation is heartbreaking for the community and challenging for the investigators involved,” Lt. Ashley Miller stated Friday.

Additional Victims Found

The search expanded after police located the body of a 53-year-old man at a second home. Later, authorities discovered the bodies of Hickman, 39, and a 29-year-old woman in a wooded area. All victims died as a result of gunshot wounds, according to police. The relationships between the victims and the suspect remain unclear.

Suspect's Criminal History

Court records indicate that Hickman was convicted of misdemeanor fourth-degree child abuse in 2024 and sentenced to one year in jail. In the same case, felony assault and criminal sexual conduct charges were dismissed. Tim Penrose, a neighbor of one of the victims, stated that Hickman lived at the home where the 53-year-old man was found dead and had frequently harassed him and his wife.

Official Response

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer addressed the shootings Friday, stating she was monitoring the situation closely. “My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the Missaukee community,” she said. Police confirmed Saturday that the investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shootings and gather further information about the victims and the suspect.
