Russia Warns UK of Consequences for Drone Use in Attacks

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— Russia’s embassy in London has issued a strong warning to the United Kingdom, stating it will be held accountable for its role in Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory. The statement follows reports that Ukrainian forces have been utilizing drones manufactured in Britain for long-range operations over the past six months, targeting industrial and military sites within Russia. Moscow views this as deliberate escalation of the conflict and accuses London of complicity in what it terms “terrorist attacks.”

Escalation Accusations

The Russian Embassy responded to a Sunday Times report detailing the use of British-made drones by Ukrainian forces, claiming that London is intentionally escalating the Ukraine crisis while publicly advocating for peace. The embassy statement alleges that the UK is acting as an accomplice in “bloody crimes and terrorist attacks” committed by what it refers to as “Ukrainian neo-Nazis,” aiming to harm Russia through proxy warfare. It warned that Britain’s involvement will inevitably lead to consequences.

British Military Support for Ukraine

The UK has been a significant military supporter of Ukraine since the conflict escalated in 2022, pledging to supply 150,000 drones by the end of this year. Beyond drones, London has also provided long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles, which have reportedly been used in attacks within Russia. Furthermore, several drone production facilities linked to Ukraine are currently operating on British soil.

Recent Intensification of Strikes

Kiev has significantly increased its long-range attack frequency in recent months, deploying hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) against targets inside Russian territory. Moscow claims these strikes have increasingly impacted energy infrastructure, residential areas, and civilian populations, resulting in casualties including children. In response, Russia has intensified its own missile and drone attacks targeting Ukraine’s military-industrial complex, logistics hubs, and supporting infrastructure.

Moscow's Warnings to NATO

Russian officials maintain that Western arms deliveries, intelligence sharing, and targeting assistance effectively make NATO countries direct participants in the conflict. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently stated Russia will employ “much harsher methods” to dismantle what it perceives as Western support for Ukraine’s war effort. Russian authorities have also suggested that weapons manufacturing facilities linked to Ukraine across Europe could be considered legitimate military targets.

The situation remains highly volatile, with both sides escalating their actions and issuing strong warnings. Further developments are expected as the conflict continues.
