Rastriya Swatantra Party Pledges Rs. 5 Million for Nepal Flood Relief

Kathmandu— Following severe flooding in Rasuwa, Nepal that has affected at least six districts and left hundreds missing, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) announced a Rs. 5 million contribution to support government relief operations on Wednesday. The party urged immediate action for rescue, relief, and rehabilitation of those impacted by the disaster, emphasizing transparent aid distribution through official channels. RSP leadership is actively coordinating with government agencies and mobilizing its members to assist in rescue efforts, while also suspending scheduled political activities to focus fully on disaster management.

Widespread Flooding Impacts Multiple Districts

Floods in Rasuwa have impacted at least six districts across Nepal, resulting in numerous missing persons and the destruction of several villages. The RSP secretariat expressed condolences for those who lost their lives and extended sympathies to bereaved families, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. The scale of the disaster has prompted calls for immediate government intervention and coordinated relief efforts.

RSP Mobilizes Resources and Personnel

The RSP has decided to actively mobilize its party committees, members, and supporters from national to local levels in rescue and relief work, coordinating with local administration and security agencies. Ashish Thapa, coordinator of the party’s Rapid Response Team (RAT), is leading this mobilization effort. The party also urged citizens at risk to relocate to safer areas and provide humanitarian assistance where possible.

Call for Transparent Aid Distribution

The RSP has stressed the importance of providing financial and material assistance through a government-managed ‘one-door system’ to ensure transparency and effectiveness in aid distribution. This measure aims to prevent corruption and guarantee that resources reach those most in need. The party also cautioned against spreading misinformation, urging reliance on official government sources for accurate updates.

Lamichhane Urges Coordinated Response

RSP President Rabi Lamichhane addressed the House of Representatives on Wednesday, calling for skilled human resources to be mobilized in rescue and relief operations carried out by political parties in coordination with government agencies and local administrations. He urged all political parties to work impartially and prioritize addressing the natural disaster without political considerations. Lamichhane committed that the RSP, as a leading party in parliament, will take a proactive role in disaster risk prevention and coordinate an all-party meeting if necessary.

President Lamichhane continued coordinating with government bodies late Wednesday evening to ensure smooth rescue operations for those still missing in the flood-affected areas. The party has expressed its ongoing commitment to supporting disaster-affected citizens.
