Kathmandu— Iran has accused the United States of bombing a house during a wedding celebration in the southern county of Sirik, killing at least five people, including a child. The attack occurred early Wednesday in the city of Kuhestak and left more than 50 others wounded, with many victims being women and children.

Details of the Attack

Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the attack as “brutal,” hitting a residence in Kuhestak. According to Hossein Kermanpour from the Ministry of Health, electricity and telephone services were cut off following the bombing. Footage published by the Iranian Red Crescent Society showed significant damage to the building, with debris scattered on the ground. The humanitarian group also shared images of several children receiving treatment at a hospital.

US Military Strikes

The US military announced a new wave of strikes against “Iranian military targets,” following attempted attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes targeted Iranian air defense sites, radar systems, maritime assets and facilities, mine-laying capabilities, and communications sites. This latest round of airstrikes comes amid a continuing standoff over the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has blockaded since February 28.

Iranian Response

In response to the US strikes, Iran’s military retaliated by attacking US bases and assets in Jordan, Bahrain, and Iraq. Kuwait also reported intercepting drones and missiles. Baghaei called for global action against these attacks, stating that such acts of cruelty cannot be separated from previous atrocities committed during the ongoing conflict. He emphasized that those who remain silent or justify such acts are not neutral.
