Chitwan, Oct 24 (RSS): ‘The Eye Camp for Chitwan’, a health campaign aimed at making Chitwan district blindness-free kicked off here Monday on the initiative of a foreign social worker.
Catria, a Nepal loving German, took the lead to launch the campaign in partnership with the local eye care centre named Support and Care Rehabilitation Centre at Ratnanagar-9 in the district.
It is a pilot project under which free eye checkup camps would be set up in various eight remote places in the district.

Such camps would be set up in three places in Ratnanagar, two in Kalika Municipality and Bharatpur Municipality and one each in Rapti, Madi and Bharatpur Municipality.
As many as 256 patients were benefitted from the eye checkup camp at Jirauna in Ratnanagar set up on Monday. Over 2,000 patients are expected to avail free eye checkup services in the first phase of the campaign.

Catria shared that the campaign was launched after she felt the need to provide eye care facilities to as many as people in the district where she found many people to be suffering from eye related diseases among the other districts she had travelled in different occasions. She had launched a fundraising programme in various places in her home country for the same.

Coordinator of the Campaign Rajbandhu Gautam said that the health camp would also offer treatment relating to eye ailments and medicines as well as spectacles. “All the expenses required for the treatment of the eye patients will be borne by the campaign itself,” he said.
