Kathmandu— Indian athletes Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran secured silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the men's triple jump at the Commonwealth Games 74th edition held in Glasgow. Both athletes expressed joy over their achievements and thanked their families for support.
Chithravel's Silver Medal Triumph
Praveen Chithravel, who narrowly missed out on a medal at the previous Commonwealth Games, secured silver with a best jump of 16.58 meters in his fourth attempt. Despite challenging cold conditions, Chithravel remained focused and pushed himself to deliver his best performance.
"I'm really so happy to get the silver medal," said Chithravel, expressing gratitude for his family's support. He also highlighted his humble beginnings: "My father is a farmer and my mother is a housewife. I built everything on my own."
Selva Prabhu's Bronze Medal Achievement
Selva Prabhu Thirumaran clinched the bronze medal with a best jump of 16.52 meters, dedicating his achievement to everyone who supported him throughout his journey. "I am feeling very proud of myself and my parents," he said, noting that representing India had been a long-standing dream for his family.
"This was a dream for them from the start. They always wanted me to represent India," Prabhu added.
Chithravel's focus now shifts towards the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, scheduled from September 19 to October 4, 2026.
