Kathmandu— The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), or UML, has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of Nepali climbers, including renowned mountaineer Nirmal 'Nimsdai' Purja, who perished in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan. The tragedy occurred on Thursday and claimed the lives of all ten expedition members, four of whom were foreigners.
Tributes to Fallen Climbers
In a press statement issued today, UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel extended heartfelt tributes to the climbers who lost their lives in the avalanche. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families and acknowledged the significant contributions of Nirmal Purja, also known as 'Nimsdai', to mountaineering.
Purja rose to international fame in 2019 when he successfully climbed all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters within six months and six days. This feat earned him global recognition in the climbing community.
