Kathmandu— Fresh from winning a historic third successive Commonwealth Games (CWG) gold medal, Mirabai Chanu has redirected her attention towards the upcoming Asian Games in Japan. The Olympic silver medallist expressed her determination to secure another top-tier finish for India, emphasizing that training had already commenced despite the tight timeline.
Mirabai's CWG Triumph
In Glasgow, Mirabai Chanu delivered a record-breaking performance in the women's 49kg category, lifting an impressive total of 190kg. This victory not only marked her third consecutive CWG gold but also made her the first Indian woman to win medals at four successive Commonwealth Games. Her achievements include silver at Glasgow 2014 and subsequent golds at Gold Coast 2018, Birmingham 2022, and now Glasgow 2026.
Training for Asian Games
Mirabai Chanu has already begun her rigorous training regimen in preparation for the upcoming Asian Games. She emphasized the importance of this competition, noting that it would be a significant challenge given the high level of competition expected.
"I want to win a medal of the same colour for India again in the Asian Games," she stated confidently.
