Kathmandu— BJP Member of Parliament Karan Bhushan Singh welcomed the acquittal of his father, former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, in a sexual harassment case involving women wrestlers. The Rouse Avenue Court acquitted both Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar on Monday.

Reaction to the Verdict

Speaking to reporters after the verdict was announced, Karan Bhushan Singh thanked the court for what he called a 'victory of truth.' He questioned whether political parties that had criticized his father during the controversy would now acknowledge their mistake. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh himself stated that he had been acquitted with honor and that the legal battle had strengthened him.

Background of the Case

The case was linked to an FIR filed by women wrestlers during Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's tenure as WFI chief. Delhi Police invoked sections 354, 354D, 354A, and 506 (1) of the Indian Penal Code in connection with allegations of sexual harassment against him and Vinod Tomar. The hearing was conducted in a closed courtroom by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar.
