Gujarat Reports 35 Cases of Deadly Chandipura Virus with 22 Deaths

ABC NEWS
१९ श्रावण २०८३, मंगलबार   ११ : ०५   बजे

Kathmandu— Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya announced that out of 184 patients tested, including suspected cases, 35 have been confirmed with Chandipura virus. The state has recorded 22 deaths from the disease, while seven others are receiving critical care in ICUs.

Intensified Surveillance and Testing Efforts

The Gujarat health department is stepping up surveillance and testing efforts across affected areas to identify and isolate suspected cases. Super-specialist doctors are supervising the treatment of seven patients currently hospitalized with ventilator support.

Challenges in Controlling Spread

Health authorities face difficulties in tracing new cases due to the widespread presence of sandflies, which transmit the Chandipura virus. Minister Pansheriya emphasized the need for immediate repairs to cracks in mud houses and clay walls to prevent further spread.

Public Health Advisory

The health department is urging citizens to remain vigilant and seek medical attention promptly if children under 15 years of age exhibit symptoms such as fever, vomiting, or convulsions. Pansheriya also appealed for cooperation with health teams and disregard of rumors.

Gujarat’s health system remains prepared and actively monitoring the situation under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel's guidance.
