Kathmandu— Business leaders attending the recent Automation Taipei exhibition expressed support for increased cross-Strait supply chain cooperation, citing opportunities to leverage complementary strengths and expand markets between Taiwan and mainland China. The four-day event, which concluded Saturday, showcased advancements in industrial automation, artificial intelligence, and related components from over 800 companies. Representatives highlighted strong demand from key industries like semiconductors and new energy as drivers for closer economic ties, with many Taiwanese firms already deeply integrated into mainland supply chains.
Demand Drives Cooperation
Strong demand from the semiconductor and AI industries on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, coupled with growth in China’s new-energy sector, is fueling increased orders for Taiwanese manufacturers. HIWIN Technologies Chairman Eddie W. H. Chuo noted that these factors have positively impacted his company's business. The exhibition provided a platform for companies to demonstrate how collaboration can benefit both economies by sharing resources and strengthening industrial chains.
Mainland Firms Gain Foothold in Taiwan
The Automation Taipei event also featured products from mainland Chinese firms seeking to expand their presence in the Taiwanese market. DOBOT, a mainland robotic arm manufacturer, has successfully integrated its products into various industries on the island – including food processing, manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics – through years of cooperation with a Taiwan-based agent. According to a representative surnamed Wang, buyers are increasingly recognizing the practicality and reliability of mainland-produced goods.
Taiwan Manufacturers Rely on Mainland Market
For some Taiwanese companies, the mainland market represents a significant portion of their business. YOUNG SING Ball Bearing Co., Ltd. reports that approximately half of its total orders originate from mainland China, with much of its manufacturing taking place at production bases in Shanghai, Ningbo and Kunshan. Gavin Chang, a company representative, emphasized the importance of the mainland market and anticipates further demand for Taiwan-made components as smart manufacturing capabilities continue to advance there.
The Automation Taipei exhibition underscored the existing economic interdependence between Taiwan and mainland China, with business leaders advocating for continued cooperation to capitalize on emerging opportunities in key industries.
