Kathmandu— On Thursday, Tamil Nadu's Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister R Vinoth presented the state's first Agriculture Budget for 2026-27 in the Legislative Assembly. The budget follows recent government initiatives aimed at aiding farmers, including loan waivers and financial relief measures announced by Chief Minister Vijay.

Supporting Marginal Farmers

In May, Chief Minister Vijay announced a waiver of crop loans up to Rs 50,000 for marginal farmers who had borrowed from cooperative banks. Additionally, larger farmers received a relief of Rs 5,000 for similar loans. These measures are part of the government's broader strategy to alleviate financial burdens on farming communities.

Education and Modernization

The state Finance Minister Marie Wilson presented the overall budget for 2026-27, which includes significant allocations for education modernization. Rs 300 crore has been allocated to upgrade 3,734 government schools under a new initiative aimed at improving cleanliness and infrastructure in educational institutions.

Digital Learning Initiatives

The 'Vetri Laptop Scheme' was announced as part of the budget, providing laptops to college students to enhance digital learning capabilities. The scheme is expected to strengthen technological education across the state. Additionally, plans were outlined for establishing modern residential schools and new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) to further support educational development.
