Federal Judge Rejects Alex Murdaugh’s Lawsuit Against Former Clerk

Kathmandu— A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by disgraced lawyer Alex Murdaugh against former court clerk Becky Hill, who was found to have misconducted during his first trial. The lawsuit sought $600,000 in legal fees that Murdaugh claimed were incurred due to her actions.

Judge's Ruling

In his ruling on Wednesday, Judge Richard Gergel stated that there was no causal connection between the funds Murdaugh spent for his defense and Hill’s misconduct. The judge noted that Hill had no role in initiating criminal charges against Murdaugh, which is a critical point in dismissing the lawsuit.

Gergel wrote, “Plaintiff's claim contains a fatal flaw — the lack of a causal connection between the funds he expended for his defense in the first trial and Defendant’s misconduct. Defendant had no role in the initiation of criminal charges against Plaintiff.”

Murdaugh's Response

Despite the ruling, Murdaugh’s attorneys filed an appeal notice shortly after the decision was handed down. The case has garnered significant public attention due to its true crime elements and media coverage.

Murdaugh remains incarcerated while awaiting his retrial on murder charges scheduled for April next year.
