Kathmandu— Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, extended greetings to members of the Indian Youth Congress on Sunday to mark the organization's foundation day. Highlighting the importance of the nation's younger generation, Gandhi praised the group's historical role in providing a platform for young Indians to advocate for their rights, dreams, and aspirations.

A Legacy of Youth Empowerment

The Indian Youth Congress, the youth wing of the Indian National Congress, was established on August 9, 1960. Originally part of the main Congress party, it was later established as a frontal organization by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

In a statement shared on social media, Gandhi noted that the organization has a proud legacy of amplifying the voices of young people and supporting them as they fight against systems they believe are rigged against them.

Organizational Growth and Initiatives

The organization currently maintains a membership of over two crore registered individuals. It is currently led by President Uday Bhanu Chib and Joint Secretary Krishna Allavaru.

To drive engagement, the IYC has launched several key initiatives. These include the 'Shakti Super She' campaign, designed to strengthen the association and engagement of women with the Congress party, as well as the Bharat Jodo leadership program, the Pehla vote initiative, and the Indira fellowship.

Focus on Unemployment and Rights

The commemoration follows recent political activity by Gandhi, including the 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' programme held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. During that event, Gandhi criticized the central government regarding unemployment, claiming that only a small proportion of young people are able to secure permanent employment.

The Indian Youth Congress continues to focus on raising awareness for youth rights and expanding its nationwide engagement.
