Ukrainian Drone Attack Kills Twelve in Russia’s Tatarstan Region

Kathmandu— At least twelve people were killed and thirty-nine injured in a Ukrainian drone attack targeting the city of Nizhnekamsk in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan, local officials reported. The strike, which occurred overnight, impacted both industrial and civilian sites in the city located approximately 880 kilometers east of Moscow. Regional authorities have dispatched additional medical teams to address the casualties, while Tatarstan has declared a period of mourning for the victims.

Attack Details

Mayor Radmir Belyaev confirmed that both industrial and civilian sites were targeted in Nizhnekamsk. The regional Health Ministry responded by sending six additional medical teams from Naberezhnye Chelny and Tatarstan’s center for disaster medicine, a specialized trauma hospital, to assist with the influx of patients.

Casualty Reports

Preliminary reports indicate that at least one child was among those hospitalized following the drone raid. The total number of injured currently stands at thirty-nine, according to local officials. Tatarstan head Rustam Minnikhanov has declared a period of mourning in response to the loss of life.

Russian Defense Response

The Russian Defense Ministry stated that its air defense forces intercepted 456 Ukrainian drones overnight, including those targeting Tatarstan. Further details regarding the interception efforts and the types of drones involved have not yet been released.

Authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage and provide assistance to those affected by the attack.
