Xi Jinping Cultivates Personal Diplomacy Through Longstanding Friendships

ABC NEWS

Kathmandu— Chinese President Xi Jinping is leveraging personal relationships with friends from around the world to enhance China's diplomatic efforts, believing that strong interpersonal bonds are crucial for fostering stable and productive international cooperation. He has prioritized maintaining these ties through reunions and correspondence, creating what state media describes as ‘warm and heartfelt moments.’ This approach underscores his belief that genuine friendship forms the bedrock of lasting global partnerships.

Friendship as a Diplomatic Tool

Xi Jinping views personal connections not merely as pleasantries but as fundamental to international stability. He believes these relationships provide an 'inexhaustible driving force' for peace and development globally, and are essential for achieving mutually beneficial outcomes in cooperation.

The emphasis on long-term friendships suggests a continued focus on relationship-building as a key component of China’s foreign policy.
