Kathmandu— Heavy rainfall triggered landslides and flooding that blocked sections of two major highways in Nepal's Baglung district on Monday, disrupting transportation and prompting efforts to clear the roadways. The affected routes are the Kaligandaki Corridor and the Mid-hill Highway, both vital for connectivity in the region. Landslides occurred at Kalakhola Bagar within Baglung Municipality while flooding impacted Nishi Bazar near Thadakhola, according to local officials. Authorities have mobilized resources to restore access.

Highway Disruptions

A section of the Kaligandaki Corridor is blocked at Kalakhola Bagar in Baglung Municipality-13 due to landslides. Simultaneously, the Mid-hill Highway has been disrupted near Nishi Bazar, specifically at Thadakhola, as a result of flooding in the Nishikhola stream within Nishikhola Rural Municipality-4.

Ongoing Clearance Efforts

Local authorities are coordinating with road division offices and project teams to clear the blocked highways. Rameswar Twati, information officer and deputy superintendent of police for the Baglung district police office, stated that efforts were underway to reopen both routes.

Clearance operations continue as officials assess the full extent of the damage and work to restore transportation along the affected highway sections.
